I had a fantastic trip to the Decorex, the Interior Design Exhibition this week and thought it might be useful to do a quick update on some of the fabulous things I saw and the new trends that will doubtless be winging their way into our homes very soon.
First up, contrasting upholstery. This is a really good way to incorporate some of the really bright, bold and colourful prints without overwhelming your room or just to add some interest in terms of a different colour or texture. In practical terms we saw sofas with the frame covered in a different fabric to the cushions or with interesting details added to the front of the seat cushions.
In terms of wallpaper, there was a definite move towards mural type pieces to cover a whole wall and large bright prints – still with lots of foliage in evidence. But the most interesting spot was definitely the magnetic wallpaper by Sian Zeng. A fantastic option for children’s bedrooms with the moveable dinosaurs and other characters. All in beautifully elegant muted shades.
And last but by no means least – I was really surprised to see bathrooms suites and taps in a whole range of colours at the Water Monopoly stand. Admittedly, amongst the glamour of Decorex, the pastel blue and buttercup yellow suites did look quite stunning but I couldn’t help but wonder whether it’s but a small step from the return of the dreaded avocado bathroom!
